AHMEDABAD: On weekdays, some 1.3 lakh passengers opt for the internationally acclaimed BRT bus services to travel. That’s the daily number of passengers the Ahmedabad had reached in December 2009. Even as the BRT network grew from a humble 12km to 89km today, the average number of passengers has remained the same. One asks why has the pasenger growth of BRTS remained stunted? The BRTS was never starved of funds, but was the most pampered and advertised city bus service. IT services, smart cards and mobile apps were designed to improve the service. And now experts ask, is this Rs 1,100 crore project turning into a white elephant?
