This week we are talking about Mary Kom, again. This is because last week, the former junior world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen wrote to Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, demanding a trial bout against MC Mary Kom before India’s squad for next year’s Olympic Qualifiers is decided. Earlier the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) had said that only if someone wins a gold or silver at the world championships will they be sent directly for the Olympics Qualifiers. And even though Kom only won a bronze, the BFI still plans to send her to the qualifiers directly. Our hosts discuss if Nikhat should be granted a trail bout and Gaurav explains why there’s a Rocky V like narrative here that the BFI could benefit from. Next, they talk about Andy Murray, who made a comeback by wining the European Open and claiming his first singles title in more than two years. And last, they discuss India decimating South Africa in the third Test against South Africa to complete a 3-0 series sweep. Daksh also questions how points are calculated in shorter Test series and the advantage it gives the teams that play it.
